Foolin' Around

Yesterday, playing with thee bestest cousin ever, Mr. P. I didn't know if auntie B would want his photo on the web for all to see, so I cropped it down. She LOVED playing with you, Mr. P!! Thanks for coming over. I hope neither of ya got sick from eating dinner :)

No Title for Today's Post

"Goodness, Guh-racious! Great balls o' fire..."

On a serious note...
Cystoscopy with Right Nephrectomy.
Dr. J told me yesterday that Maddie will need to have surgery after all. The cystocele that was seen in the prenatal ultrasound was seen on her last ultrasound. Apparently they saw it on the previous scan and VCUG, but it wasn't clear and was mistaken for 'bowel gas'. The bad kidney is producing enough urine to fill the cystocele, which is enlarging inside of her little bladder. Leave the kidney in and it can cause life-long urinary infections which could put her left kidney at risk, she would be at risk for hypertension, heart disease, stroke, dialysis...so, of course, we'll get that damn kidney out of there (sorry for the potty mouth, Gramma). They had it scheduled for September 29th, but Dr. J's assistant called me today to say that the Dr. said it can't wait that long so we got bumped up to September 4th. Next week. I keep picturing us handing this little bitty baby over to some scubs-clad nurse. It makes me so sad. She'll have her surgery done, then be admitted to the hospital for 24hrs. Thankfully, we'll be able to stay the night in recovery with her.
This is what Madelyn thinks about all of that jazz:

You go, girl!

Learning To Walk

Makes it SOOO much easier to get into trouble! She has started trying to walk while holding onto the furniture. Sometimes she gets distracted and forgets to hang on (as in this photo, where she's checking out a particularly tasty-looking gas bill). It's nuts to think that she'll be walking around in no time!

Trying To Tell You Something

I've taken so many photos of Maddie that she figured out how to use the camera!

Just kidding.

She has, however, learned to give kisses. I've been on the receiving end of a few very precious - and very slimy - kisses this week. She has also discovered that screaming, not crying, is a fun and useful tool to express herself. She sat up on her own this week, has become very mobile, and is obsessed with getting into the fireplace. Let the trouble begin!

Li'l Emeril

I am learning to cook (without relying on the microwave! GASP!!) and have managed to not set the house on fire or give anyone salmonella poisoning. Today's menu: roasted rosemary-garlic pork tenderloin with roasted vegetables and gravy, followed by fresh chocolate apple walnut cake with coffee cake icing. My assistant, pictured above, helped me find some great recipes...then tore out and crumpled the directions while I wasn't looking.
P.S. ~ To Gramma O,
Thank you so much for the little cookbook you gave me a few years back. I've made some great homemade - from scratch - meals, desserts, and breads (notice I did NOT list veggie dishes!). I would still like your banana pudding recipe...no one makes it better than you! I Love You, Always.

Playful Lady

A sliver of her top front tooth poked out this morning, providing a little relief (for the both of us). She's been super silly all day today, which makes for a happy mommy :)
