Maddie went for her check up yesterday and it went wonderfully. There was only a bit of crying when she got her shots (which means Mommy didn't cry) and Dr. H said she's doing great! She was 23 3/4 inches and 13lbs 12oz ~ the size of your average 3 1/2 month old! She is in the 97th percentile for her age. We go back next Monday to re-check her urine (the culture came back positive for an infection), then the following Monday we'll venture back to the medical center for another go at the VCUG. Dr. H said that some babies are just prone to urinary infections and there's not much we can do to prevent them, that the VCUG may help to determine whether she'll need to stay on prophylactic antibiotics or not. She's been much less fussy since clearing her UTI (imagine that! Life's a lot better when you're not peeing razorblades). She's been sleeping better, too, as long as I'm holding her so my sweet husband went all over town to find a nice rocker/recliner. I've been sleeping sitting up in the living room which is hell on the back and booty, but Maddie will sleep for 5 or 6 hours like that so it was totally worth it. She's really doing great, learning to hold her head up (even though she kinda resembles Stevie Wonder when she does), she plays and loves the toys that light up and make music, and she coos! Well, mostly the noises sound like she's complaining, but they always make us smile. Maddie and I have long conversations before her afternoon nap...it's so amazing how attentive she is. Anyhow, I could go on forever about her, but alas ~ it's time for another bottle!

Arrrrgg!
Well, Maddie has a urinary tract infection so they didn't do the VCUG today. Her urinalysis was positive for leukocytes and she's on antibiotics - again. We should get her culture results by Friday or next Monday and then schedule another radiology appointment in two weeks. I'll keep ya posted...

7 Weeks 5 Days Old

Pictures of our little Beauty from today, right after her bath! Notice there are NO TEARS!! She did exceptionally well and only cried when I first put her in the tub.
Well, tomorrow we go to Texas Children's Hospital for Maddie's VCUG test on her bladder and kidneys. I am a little scared, but trying not to be an all-out sissy. I'm afraid of what the test will show, I'm afraid it will hurt her...she's just so little. The nice thing about it is that we'll (hopefully) finally find out whether or not she'll need surgery or just follow up ultrasounds every few months. Anyhow, wish her luck!

Almost Six Weeks

I've been trying to post these photos for a week, but haven't been able to till today...some issue with the website.
Anyway, we made a trip to see Dr. H, Maddie's pediatrician, this morning due to some crying spells. She's been crying inconsolably, screaming till she's hoarse, weird eating patterns (6oz at one feeding, 2 at the next, sometimes eating every hour, sometimes every 4 hours). I've tried putting her in her swing, bouncy chair, sling, carrier, car seat, car rides, running the vacuum, swaddling her, rocking her, holding her, letting her lay there and cry it out (which is when the screaming begins)...nothing helps! Mylicon drops work some days and not others, and I figured it was just bad gas since she's fine after a nice tooting marathon. Thankfully, Dr. H didn't find anything wrong with her. She suggested that Maddie has colic (EEEK!) and to try switching to a soy formua which might help her digest her food a little easier. The poor baby grunts all day some days without any luck passing gas or poopin', then farts ALL night and has a couple 'Mother Load' bowel movements. After that she's happy as a clam! She weighed in at 11bls 4 oz (and I have the backache to prove it).
Other than that, all's well on the homefront.
